Home Remedies for Goiter Treatment

Goiter treatment using Iodine
Iodine is, undoubtedly, most helpful in many cases, but it should be given in its organic form. All foods containing iodine should be taken liberally. These are lettuce, turnips, carrots, garlic, onions, oats, pineapples, whole rice, tomatoes, watercress, strawberries, guavas, citrus fruits, egg yolks, and sea foods.

Goiter treatment using Watercress

Goiter can be treated with Watercress which is one of the best sources of the element iodine. It is valuable in correcting the functioning of the thyroid gland. Its regular use, therefore, is highly beneficial in the prevention and treatment of goiter. A paste made of this vegetable can also be applied beneficially over the affected parts. It helps to reduce swelling.

Goiter treatment using Swamp Cabbage

Expothalmic goiter can be treated using the leaves of swamp cabbage. A teaspoon of the juice with tea almonds should be given once or twice daily as a medicine. The leaves are also useful in myxodema, a condition that result\'s from lack of thyroid hormones

Goiter treatment using Kachnar

Kachnar, botanically known as Bauhinia variegata, has been used as a folk medicine for treatment of goiter in India. About 30 ml of the decoction of the bark should be given twice a day in the morning on an empty stomach.

Goiter treatment using Dandelion

Dandelion has been found valuable in treating goiter. The leaves of this salad vegetable should be smeared with ghee, warmed and bandaged over the swollen parts for about two weeks. Any existing discomfort will be relieved by this remedy.

Goiter treatment using Flex

The seeds of flex are also useful in reducing swellings in goiter. The seeds should be ground in water, heated and applied over the affected parts. The leaves of the tree should then be bandaged over them.


Change of Diet: One who is inflicted with goiter should consume plenty of the following foods: Old rice, barley, moong dal, patola, drumstick, cucumber, sugarcane, and juice, milk and milk products. Also, one should refrain from heavy foods such as meats or breads that are more difficult to swallow, and will cause pain.

Also, beverages such as coffee, alcoholic drinks, and sodas should be avoided, as well as foods with excess salt and sugar in them. The reason why sugar and salt is can make a person cough, and coughing while inflicted with goiter can be painful. In addition, caffeinated substances can aggravate a viral infection in the throat.

Besides knowing what to eat, one should also know how to eat. When deciding to eat, one should make sure to eat 4-5 smaller meals in a day rather than 2-3 larger meals in a day. This will help the body digest more foods more thoroughly, so the body will be more likely to absorb necessary nutrients. This should aid in the curing of goiter.

Exercise Regularly: One should do neck stretches and exercises daily to help stretch the muscles attached to the thyroid glands. Also, when possible, a person affected with goiter should partake in a moderate aerobic activity such as walking or jogging for at least 30 minutes a day.

Along with exercising regularly, one should be sure to live as balanced life of a life as possible. A balanced life includes making time for all important activities, such as time with friends and family, work, and hobbies. If a person cannot work due to goiter, then at least doing some creative activities or working on logic problems can keep the person's mind off the goiter problem until it is cured.

In addition to a balance life, a person who has goiter should get plenty of rest, lying primarily on the back at least twice a day. This will help rebuild the body's ability to fight off future attacks.
